The Migration Policy Institute (MPI), a nonpartisan, nonprofit think tank dedicated to the study of national and international migration and refugee policies, seeks a part-time bookkeeper to support the Director of Finance & Administration.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Process invoices, cut checks, secure signatures, and prepare for mailing.
- Monitor bank accounts daily.
- Enter cash receipts and accounts receivable.
- Track grants receivable and accounts receivable, prepare aging reports, and follow up as needed on overdue accounts.
- Enter semi-monthly payroll into accounting system.
- Compose and prepare letters for donors, vendors, and others as appropriate.
- Maintain files for accounting functions, contracts and grants.
- Reconcile bank statements and account balances.
- Prepare and enter monthly journal entries.
- Print and distribute monthly financial reports.

Qualifications:
- Associates degree in Accounting, or equivalent, with 3 or more years experience, preferably in a nonprofit.
- Experience with AP, AR, CR, GL, payroll entries, monthly journal entries, and account management.
- Experience with accounting and office suite software and ability to learn new systems as necessary.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
- Ability to work effectively with staff, contractors, and vendors.
