RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Identify curricular resources, innovative ideas, and instructional strategies to ensure student achievement.
- Create purposeful and appropriate lesson plans that employ a variety of effective teaching strategies, provide meaningful instruction, and maximize time on task.
- Regularly evaluate student progress using multiple assessment methods including DC Prep Interim Assessments, teacher-designed tests, and samples of student work.
- Use data to analyze students’ academic strengths and deficits, to drive individualized instruction, and to design academic interventions as needed.
- Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established by Individual Education Plans (IEP).
- Actively participate in collaborative academic planning regarding school-wide academic targets.
- Support the school mission of instilling character and leadership values and infusing the school’s character education program into daily instruction.
- Communicate regularly with families to share academic progress and develop a supportive home-school relationship.
- Keep current in subject matter knowledge and learning theory and be willing to share this knowledge for continual improvement of the school's curriculum;
- Fully participate in opportunities for professional growth including weekly professional development meetings, instructional coaching and identifying and accessing outside professional opportunities.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least two years of successful teaching experience in an urban environment
- Strong undergraduate record, masters degree a plus
- A firm grasp of grade-appropriate material and instructional strategies
- Proven record of student achievement, with a focus on data-driven instruction
- A passion for teaching and building relationships with students and families
- A desire to work as a team player with other teachers, staff, and parents
- A continuous desire for personal improvement
- Achievement of, or are in process of achieving, NCLB Highly Qualified status
- Maturity and personal stability sufficient for a demanding teaching position.
