San Diego Coastkeeper a dynamic and growing nonprofit organization working to protect and restore San Diego’s bays, coastal waters and watersheds, seeks a part-time to full-time Accountant/Bookkeeper to assist with general accounting duties on a contractual basis.
Responsibilities:
Accounts Payable
Obtain documentation and verify balances for all vendor invoices and employee/contractor reimbursements and check requests; reconcile accounts payable balances to statements received from vendors, employees and contractors; process checks and enter all accounts payable information into QuickBooks.
Accounts Receivable:
Assist Controller and Program Managers with tracking and collection efforts on grants, contracts and donations; prepare invoices and follow up with customers and funders regarding outstanding balances; prepare weekly deposits and enter receipts into QuickBooks; process credit card receipts and enter into QuickBooks.
Payroll:
Process payroll and make payroll tax payments in a timely fashion; verify accuracy of payroll tax reports and tax forms received from payroll processing company; enter employee timesheets and payroll tax information into QuickBooks; track and report employees’ used and accumulated vacation and sick days.
Accounting/Tax:
Assist Controller with month?end accounting close, preparation of schedules and documents for the annual audit and tax return, and the preparation and timely payment of general tax reports and property taxes. Assist Controller, Executive Director, and Program Managers with other tasks as needed.
Req. candidate profile :
Qualifications/Skills:
Applicants should possess working knowledge of QuickBooks, advanced computer skills (including Microsoft Excel), good organizational and time management skills, and a friendly, professional and supportive approach with employees, contractors, vendors and donors. Knowledge and experience with nonprofit organizational accounting procedures, including grant accounting and reporting is highly desirable.
