To provide support and technical assistance to local religion-labor affiliates and create/ develop new affiliates.
Accountability: The position is directly accountable to the Organizing Director.
Responsibilities:
Provide support and technical assistance. The organizer will:
Provide support and technical assistance to existing local religion-labor affiliates including assistance with goals and objectives, fundraising plans, and campaign strategies;
Develop new affiliate organizations in priority cities,
Serve as primary liaison to additional assigned local religion-labor groups;
Lead organization-building workshops as part of IWJ’s training program;
Ensure these affiliates understand and take advantage of IWJ’s programs and technical assistance, including assistance with goals and objectives, fundraising plans, and campaign strategies;
Write or solicit articles about local group accomplishments for IWJ’s newsletter and e-mail blasts.
Low-Wage Issue Campaign Leadership. The organizer will:
Lead the development and refinement of one or two campaign strategies; (Strategies are developed in partnership with the unions, IWJ’s board of directors, department directors, and local affiliates.)
Oversee the implementation of appropriate strategies and tactics;
Represent the organization in public and in the media on the issues;
Coordinate the board members involvement in campaigns and preparing materials for board meetings; and
Write organizing materials for use by the IWJ network.
Other: In addition to the specific job responsibilities, the staff member will:
Represent the organization in meetings.
Participate in regular staff meetings and events.
Attend board meetings as requested.
Perform other tasks as requested.
Req. candidate profile :
Qualifications:
At least three years experience community organizing.
Commitment to economic social justice.
Strong experience working within the religious community.
Strong writing and personal communication skills.
Ability to travel. This position requires 30 percent domestic travel.
