The Young Adult Advocate will be responsible for outreaching to and training young adults who are homeless/runaway or emancipating/emancipated from foster care with mental health needs and advocating to improve mental health services in San Francisco. The Young-Adult Advocate will be an agency leader working and advocating to promote recovery and reduce mental health stigma affecting young adults.
JOB DUTIES:
Outreach to and organize young-adults who are or have been homeless or in the foster care system to participate in mental health policy making opportunities and promote leadership of these young adults in policy involvement.
Speak publically about personal experiences with foster care or homelessness and mental health needs and encourage other young adults to do the same
Train young-adults who are or have been homeless or in the foster care system to be advocates for their needs and improvements to mental health services
Monitor and respond to mental health-related public policy developments impacting vulnerable young-adults in San Francisco
Work to implement the recommendations of the San Francisco Mayor's Transitional Youth Task Force
Collaborate with non-profit, young adult organizations and government partners.
Req. candidate profile :
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
First hand personal experience with the foster care system and/or homelessness
First hand personal experience with public mental health services in San Francisco
Organized, ability to multi-task, and proficient note-taking and writing skills
Public speaking experience and adept at training others to do the same
Insightful and ability to relate to the challenges transition-age youth (16-24) face in SF
