Job description

The Program Budget/Financial Analyst is responsible for developing, maintaining and managing the budget and reporting for assigned program(s). The Program Budget/Financial Analyst will work with Finance and Program staff to ensure the integrity of budget data and recommend ways to maximize effectiveness of available budget resources. The Program Budget/Financial Analyst will work with Development staff and Finance staff to respond to grant requests and proposals and ensure that all reporting required by the grant is completed in an accurate and timely manner.

Key responsibilities:
  • Works with Program management, Program staff, Finance staff & Development staff to prepare annual budget.
  • Reviews monthly budget reports and Development income reports; investigates and resolves discrepancies. Monitors and revises forecasts for expenses and revenue on a monthly basis. Analyzes budget and makes recommendations to program management on best use of available budget resources.
  • Works with Finance staff and Development staff to ensure budget and financial information is accurately recorded in financial statements. Creates new budget codes as necessary. Resolves issues as required.
  • Works with Development and Program staff to respond to grant requests and proposals, coordinating the preparation of proposal budgets. Works with Finance and Development to ensure timely and accurate reporting as required by grant.
  • Coordinates information for Operational Reviews, both on budget and project management.
  • Acts as a resource to Program staff on financial issues related to program budgets. Works with program staff to ensure financial information is properly coded and recorded.
  • Prepares financial reports as requested.
  • Completes other projects as assigned, including coordination of annual performance management/staff reviews.
Req. candidate profile : Qualifications include but are not limited to:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration or equivalent experience required.
  • 3 to 5 years experience in finance or accounting and 1 to 3 years experience with an emphasis on budget management required; or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of GAAP and FASB standards required; knowledge of non-profit accounting practices preferred.
  • Experience with budgeting and forecasting.
  • Experience with automated general ledger, budgeting, forecasting and reporting systems.
  • Proficiency with standard business software, such as MS Office Suite, required; knowledge of intermediate Excel functions preferred.
  • Clear and understandable oral and written communications skills required.
  • Project management skills or experience required.
  • Ability to analyze information and present conclusions in a concise, coherent manner required.
  • Well developed interpersonal communications skills.
