Basic Rights Oregon (BRO) is the state’s largest grassroots organization dedicated to ending discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. With offices in Portland and Eugene, BRO is a progressive, statewide, nonprofit, non-partisan organization, which engages in public education, lobbying and electoral work to reach its goals. The field team is focused on a multi-year campaign to shift public consciousness, build political power and win policy victories for LGBT equality.
Responsibilities:
- Recruit, train, motivate and develop a diverse pool of volunteer activists and leaders to carry out the campaigns and program activities of the organization
- Coordinate phone banks, canvasses, constituent contact to elected officials, and direct action
- Provide training in organizing skills and political education to volunteer activists
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with local organizations to maximize potential for collaboration; help to build alliances in communities of color and among transgender communities
- Maintain administrative systems as necessary to track activist participation; prepare project reports
- Help coordinate speakers bureau
- Prepare written weekly, quarterly and annual work plans
- Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
- Previous issue, electoral, community, student or labor organizing experience
- Previous experience building alliances across race; commitment to building a multi-racial team
- Demonstrated experience in volunteer recruitment, management and development
- Demonstrated ability to problem solve and be proactive and to prioritize and handle a variety of projects simultaneously
- Commitment to ending transphobia
- Ability to work as part of a fast-paced team
- Commitment to organization’s mission
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated computer literacy
- Ability to travel and have a flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekends
- Valid driver’s license and access to a car
- Knowledge of Oregon’s political environment preferred
- Ability to speak Spanish a plus
