Job description
Job description: The United States Student Association, the country’s oldest and largest national student-led organization, develops current and future leaders and amplifies the student voice at the local, state, and national levels by mobilizing grassroots power to win concrete victories on student issues.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the National Field Director to develop USSA campaign plans and organizing materials for national campaigns.
  • Implement national field plan including field visits and grassroots campus campaigns through planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Develop recruitment tracking systems and campaign evaluation systems.
  • Train students across the country in grassroots organizing and electoral organizing principles and skills
  • Collaborate in planning, recruiting for, and staffing of two annual USSA conferences and other USSA sponsored trainings.
  • Promote the department, USSA, and USSAF at conferences, coalition meetings, mailings, and through day-to-day contact with people.
  • Represent USSA among field based coalitions.
  • Developing and supervising diverse and strong coalition on campuses that include student governments and student organizations (Student of Color, LGBTQ, Women, etc.)
  • Responsible for overseeing the development of statewide student associations.
  • Responsible for implementing USSA’s National Field Plan for their respective state and campuses.
  • Work to recruit and retain USSA members in their respective states.
  • Organizing and conducting regional/state/campus trainings and strategy sessions.
  • Making field visits to member campuses and State Student Associations around the country
  • To spend 25% of their time dedicated to the Student of Color Campus Diversity Project.
  • Sit on national coalitions related to USSA campaigns and USSA affiliate priorities.
  • Assist in the development of NPCS & its affiliates
  • Develop materials around affirmative action and recruitment & retention programs of underrepresented students.
  • Research/gather information around student of color issue campaigns.
  • Focus on organizing Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs)
  • To spend 25% of their time dedicated to State Students Associations development
  • Working with the National Field Director to begin the development of SSAs in member states and prospective member states
  • Sit on national coalitions related to USSA campaigns and USSA affiliate priorities.
  • Research/gather information around SSA development.
  • Support the continued growth and development of member SSAs.
  • To spend 25% of their time dedicated to Electoral work.
Req. candidate profile : Preferred Experience:

  • Understanding of Direct Action Organizing.
  • Grassroots campaign experience through campus or community campaigns.
  • Experience in peer-to-peer training.
  • Experience managing and training staff and or volunteers
  • Student, student government, state wide system associations and/or community organizing experience.
  • Experience organizing in/with student or color communities.
  • Electoral Organizing experience.
  • Good public speaking skills.
  • Experience in Coalition development.
  • Participation in Grassroots Organizing Weekend, Electoral Action Training or Midwest Academy training a plus.
  • Experience working with USSA or higher education access issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, outgoing, detailed-oriented.
  • Willingness to work evening, weekends, and travel.
  • Experience with online social networks, websites and online organizing
