Job description: Achievement First is a charter school management organization started in July 2003 by the leaders of Amistad Academy, a high performing charter school in New Haven, CT. A non-profit, 501 (c)(3) organization, Achievement First is creating a network of achievement-gap closing charter schools in Connecticut and New York to bring to scale the dramatic, life changing student achievement results produced at Amistad Academy.

Paraprofessionals are part of the foundation of a school that works to ensure that school culture and academic achievement for every student. Paraprofessionals are considered an integral part of our School Staff. Paraprofessionals will work with the Special Education Coordinators and Learning Specialists in each school site to ensure that students individual educational needs are being met. Paraprofessionals work collaboratively and individually with their colleagues to promote a positive, structured, academic, disciplined school culture.

Specific job responsibilities:
  • Working one on one or in small groups with students
  • Participating in coaching and professional development to improve your instructional practice, especially as it relates to issues of discipline, relationships with students, and school culture
  • Ensuring that ALL students are working to their fullest potential.
  • Using data strategically to inform work so that we are all working smarter and more efficiently
  • Attending all Achievement First professional development workshops
  • In small group pullouts or with individual students, implementing Achievement First curriculum, systems and philosophy into their classroom on a daily basis
  • Modeling the school’s REACH values and setting the standard for professional behavior
  • Working with Achievement First to effectively implement the Achievement First model
