New York Cares, a non-profit organization coordinates and develops volunteer programs to involve New Yorkers in community service. Every year, New York Cares works with tens of thousands of volunteers, hundreds of corporations, and hundreds more nonprofit and community agencies to provide caring New Yorkers with opportunities to volunteer and to offer critical help to New York City communities.
Reporting to the Director of Youth Service, the Youth Service Program Associate (AmeriCorps) Member will create, manage, and maintain volunteer-driven projects and initiatives that address a wide range of social issues. Youth volunteer projects may include serving and delivering meals, cleaning parks, visiting senior citizens, and assisting in after-school programs.
Specific responsibilities:
Developing partnerships with schools and community agencies
Coordinating and managing monthly volunteer projects for partnering schools and community agencies
Providing ongoing support to youth volunteers
Developing task based projects for youth volunteers
Attending each project and managing on-site project needs
Evaluating ongoing projects and school/agency relationships with supervisor
Creating and delivering education and reflection materials for volunteers and school/agency staff
Performing program-related administrative duties
Engaging in community outreach to recruit partner agencies for New York Cares
Participating in and coordinating youth service leadership conferences/trainings
Contributing to and engaging teens to contribute to monthly youth service newsletter
Req. candidate profile :
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience; ability to make a one-year commitment to AmeriCorps and New York Cares; interest in youth service; strong group facilitation skills; excellent interpersonal skills; experience and interest in working with youth; strong administrative skills, including an ability to manage and multi-task many projects; solid problem solving skills; ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team; excellent written and oral communications skills; general knowledge of MSOffice & FileMaker software; and ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of agency contacts & volunteers.
