Juma Ventures (Juma), a nonprofit organization based in San Francisco, is a leading national youth development program that uses an innovative “social enterprise” approach to support low-income youth in making successful transitions from high school to adulthood. Juma owns and operates small businesses for the purpose of providing meaningful employment and development opportunities to youth from low-income backgrounds.
The Youth Development Coordinator is responsible for providing direct support to Juma Ventures current and future youth employees, including, but not limited to involvement in recruitment, pre employment assessments, clinical case management and academic support while building youth capacity and leadership in all areas. The Youth Development Coordinator is also responsible for designing and refining life skills programs, working one on one with the youth staff, and coordinating youth community building activities at Juma and with outside organizations. The Youth Development Coordinator’s programmatic responsibilities will fall into one or more core areas: psychosocial assessment, individual goal development and tracking, skill building, leadership development, coordination of life skills curriculum, youth organizing and recruitment, and academic support. The position reports to the Youth Development Manager.
Specific Job Duties:
- Recruit youth employees to participate in Juma’s ballpark operations and program services.
- Conduct pre employment interviews and psychosocial assessments with potential and current Juma youth employees.
- Develop and monitor Individual Development Plans and academic needs for Juma youth employees.
- Maintain appropriate case notes and documentation systems for program accountability.
- Coordinate services with other agencies that meet youth employee’s needs including housing, employment, health issues, and other services.
- Provide support groups in the schools, advocacy, and conflict resolution as needed.
- Assist with designing and implementing skill building workshops across disciplines
- Actively engage youth in Juma’s drop in space and in the community
- Provide hands on academic support to youth (transcript reviews, college applications, personal statements, financial aid, and coordination with SFUSD academic counselors).
- Build community partnerships with CBO’s and local youth development agencies to enhance case management services.
- Integrate social justice framework into all aspects of clinical case management, leadership development and life skills programming.
- Attend all mandatory staff meetings and case conferences.

| Req. candidate profile : |
Requisite Qualifications:
- BSW or BA in Education required
- At least three years experience working with youth of color, working class and low income youth and vulnerable populations in a strengths-based and social justice methodology.
- Familiarity with San Francisco public schools, community organizations and political landscape
- Ability to communicate clearly, both in verbal and written forms.
- Ability to be supportive and provide guidance in a non-judgmental manner
- Demonstrated respect and interest in youth leadership and youth culture
- Demonstrated strong writing, planning and organizational skills
- Flexibility and initiative, as well as the ability to work independently, combined with the skills for thriving in a team environment to achieve shared goals
- High professional and ethical standards for handling confidential information
- Ability to organize and complete multiple tasks simultaneously with close attention to detail and prioritization to meet deadlines
- Computer proficiency in MS Office Suite, web media and other commonly used software
- Ability to work nights and weekends as necessary
