The Director of Foundations is responsible for the strategy, cultivation, stewardship, grant writing and grant management activities of Para Los Niños’ foundation effort. S/he is the central point of coordination to maximize gifts and build long-lasting relationships with foundations. S/he will ensure a positive image is maintained with the funding community and that this image is supportive of the agency’s overall development and financial growth.
Duties:
Foundation Relations:
- Play a lead role in annual development planning; determine fundraising goals and ensure success.
- Develop, lead and implement a coordinated and strategic foundation fundraising program.
- Conceptualize and draft or guide the preparation of foundation proposals and direct the solicitation of foundation grants, memberships and sponsorships.
- Cultivate relationships with local, regional and national foundations.
- Function as the central coordination point for effectively accessing and maximizing foundation donors and prospects. This includes maintaining effective, synergistic working relationships with staff, Board members, and other supporters.
- Develop an effective prospect research methodology, solicitation calendar and tracking system that integrate seamlessly into the overall fund development management system.
- Provide superior reporting and timely communication to foundations.
- Coordinate and lead site visits of Para Los Niños to foundations and other donors or prospects as needed.
- Maintain impeccable files, including accurate record keeping of all foundation grants, memberships and sponsorships.
Internal Relations
- Build connections between President/CEO and key foundation representatives. Cultivate and maintain mutually supportive relationships with program and other Para Los Niños staff.
- Work closely with select members of the senior management team and Board to provide strategic management, oversight and effective coordination of all foundation relationships.
- Maintain open lines of communication and productive, harmonious relationships with the program, marketing, operations, and external affairs departments.
Management
- Consistently cultivate and maintain synergistic relationships, internally and externally.
- Inspire and develop a mutually supportive team with others in the Development Department and beyond.
- Provide professional leadership to the foundations staff. This includes regular supervision, goal setting, providing professional development opportunities and training and mentoring when needed.
- Carry out other responsibilities as assigned/required by Vice President of Development.

Qualifications:
- Commitment to Para Los Niños mission, vision and values.
- Three or more years of experience in grantsmanship and development in the social services and/or education arenas.
- Extensive knowledge of and positive relationships within the foundations community.
- Evidence of securing 6+ figure grants.
- Three years of staff supervisory experience.
- Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Results oriented, energetic, able to work independently and as a part of a team.
- Bachelor’s degree required. Graduate degree preferred.
Special Requirements
- Must have a reliable automobile for use on the job (mileage to be reimbursed). Valid California Driver License. State required automobile insurance coverage.
- TB clearance, to be renewed every two years.
