AUSL is a nonprofit teacher preparation and school management organization partnering with the Chicago Public Schools to transform student achievement in high-poverty neighborhoods. The Curriculum Coach will work closely with the teachers and principal at one of AUSL’s schools, functioning as an instructional leader responsible for K-8 implementation of AUSL curriculum and instructional models.
job responsibilities:
The Curriculum Coach’s role is to dramatically increase student achievement through data-driven instruction and increasing teacher capacity as a member of the school’s administrative team and through individual job responsibilities such as:
Coach the Anchor Teachers in supporting their cluster teachers to use the AUSL curriculum tools to improve instruction and learning.
Work with the Anchor Teachers (an Anchor Teacher is a lead teacher for a cluster of 3 grade levels) to prepare and facilitate grade level or cluster meetings.
Collaborate with the Anchor Teachers to prepare and deliver curriculum-related professional development in grade level meetings, grade cluster meetings, or other settings.
Observe the curriculum in action in teachers’ classrooms in order to recognize trends across classrooms.
Gather and analyze curriculum-related data; maintain records.
Communicate issues and concerns about curriculum implementation to the school’s administrative team and to the Curriculum Director in a responsible and sensitive manner, i.e. observations are not confidential.
Model and/or co-plan lessons with a focus on curriculum with small groups of teachers and/or individual teachers.
Communicate with specials and resource teachers about curriculum.
Work with the school administrative team to coordinate curriculum implementation with other school initiatives.
Participate in curriculum meetings with the Curriculum Team, including planning and presenting network-wide professional development.
Req. candidate profile :
Qualifications:
Minimum of four years of teaching experience in an urban school.
Master’s degree in education.
Outstanding teaching competency.
Knowledge of K-8 curriculum in all content areas.
Knowledge of effective K-8 instructional practices.
Leadership experience in managing people and presenting professional development.
Experience in using student performance data to guide instructional decisions.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as excellent listening capacity.
Observant, reflective, and appreciative of diversity in perspectives and backgrounds.
Competency in organizing materials and data and prioritizing tasks.
Commitment to facilitating and/or leading professional development during the summer.
Preference for selection will be influenced by candidates who
Possess an endorsement in reading, math, and/or science.
Received the top rating in overall performance evaluations as a classroom teacher.
Are National Board Certified or a Golden Apple Award recipient, or who are currently applying for National Board Certification with a commitment to achieve.
