Develop concepts of opto-mechanical systems hardware based on defined program requirements. Prepare, direct, and/or mentor the design and development of 3-D Computer Aided Design (CAD) models and detailed drawings of precision alignment components and assemblies. Lead opto-mechanical design efforts for government agencies, NASA center clients, and commercial customers for ground based and flight rated hardware. Incorporate and utilize handbook design calculations during conceptual design phases for go, no go, build, and buy decisions. Mentor junior engineers in conceptual design to detailed design practices, formal design reviews, and design criteria for manufacture and function.
Job duties:
BS degree (MS preferred) in Mechanical Engineering or related field from an ABET accredited institution with a minimum of 10 years applicable experience is required. Experience in selecting optimum manufacturing techniques to build opto-mechanical hardware in required. Experience in the design and manufacture of flight rated hardware is required (examples of hardware built or flown is strongly encouraged). Strong background in materials' properties and related knowledge of causal effects on opto-mechanical systems is required. Design and drawing experience utilizing 3D CAD modeling is required. Moderate proficiency with Pro-Engineer version Wildfire and/or Solid Edge creating solid models and drawings is required. Excellent planning, organizing, scheduling and resource allocation skills desired. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and strong team commitment and customer relations skills required. Microsoft Office experience is required.
