Job description
Job description: Prepare the Structural Test Facility (STF) for Upper Stage (US) Cryogenic Structural Testing of both Development and Qualification Test Articles. Perform maintenance on cryogenic propellant transfer systems, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, electro-mechanical actuation systems, Special Test Equipment fabrication and installation. Design and service both new and legacy pneumatic, hydraulic and propellant transfer systems and components. Produce written instructions for the design, fabrication and installation of filling, draining, and venting systems associated with the Test Article and the facility. Provide cost, scheduling, manpower, and Other Direct Cost (ODC) recourse requirements to implement pneumatic systems, cryogenic propellant transfer systems, vent systems, hydraulic systems fabrication and installation. Provide engineering support to the customer with regards to facility hydraulics required to operate load control systems. Secure Pressure Vessel Certification for all high pressure systems to include but not limited to gaseous H2, N2, He, Missal Grade Air (MGA), regulation panels and purge panels. Prepare Test Preparation Sheets, Facility Activation Procedures and Facility Operational Procedures.
Job duties: BS degree or higher in Mechanical, Electrical or Aerospace Engineering or related field from an ABET accredited institution with a minimum of 8 years applicable experience is required. Experience with mechanical engineering processes/procedures in the Propulsion Test Area at MSFC is desired. Experience with processes/procedures specific to solid rocket motor dynamic testing, cryogenic propulsion testing, and system level certification is desired. Knowledge of Standard Codes ANSI/ASME 31.3; Chemical and Petroleum Refinery Piping and ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes Section 8 is desired.
