The American Civil Liberties Union Foundation of Connecticut (ACLUF-CT) seeks a full-time Development Associate to join our staff of seven in a fast-paced, friendly office in Hartford to coordinate a comprehensive fundraising plan that raises funds for the annual budget of the organization and strengthens the links between the ACLU and its supporters.
The Development Associate is responsible for planning, supervising, and executing the development programs and leading the progression and expansion of the ACLUF-CT’s fundraising strategies. The Development Associate collaborates with the Executive Director, Development Committee, and the Board of Directors to reach our annual and long-range goals.
Primary Responsibilities:
Annual Gifts Program:
The Development Associate will research, identify, cultivate, and solicit donors; coordinate donor solicitations by the Executive Director and Board members; provide assistance and training to Board members with their fundraising assignments; prepare materials for solicitors and donors; and maintain confidential records on current donors.
Fundraising Events:
S/he will develop, plan, and organize all aspects of ACLUF-CT’s benefits and cultivation events throughout the year.
Foundation and Corporate Grants Program:
The Development Associate will develop and coordinate foundation and corporate grants program, including strategic prospect research, scheduling, writing, grant preparation, and reporting.
Membership Recruitment:
S/he will participate in preparing an annual membership recruitment and retention plan, and provide oversight in its implementation.
Planned Giving:
The Development Associate will work with the National ACLU Office of Planned Giving to devise and implement strategies for marketing planned giving opportunities to ACLU donors and members.
Materials:
S/he will maintain primary responsibility for developing the messages, materials, and explanations or our work that are used in all of the development campaigns.

Additional Qualifications:
- High energy individual with strong interpersonal skills and comfort working with donors, Board members, volunteers, and staff
- Ability to ask for large sums of money
- Demonstrated interest in, enthusiasm for, and commitment to the mission and principles of the ACLU
- Excellent organization, administrative skills, and ability to follow through on assignments with a minimum of direct supervision
- Computer proficiency
- Ability to travel throughout the state and to manage and accommodate a work schedule that will include evening and weekend commitments
- Experience in successfully directing volunteers, and demonstrated leadership skills and ability to motivate others
- A demonstrated ability to write clearly and effectively
- Work experience that demonstrates strong interpersonal skills: prior sales or development experience a plus
