Child Trends has an opening for a Controller to manage the overall financial responsibilities of the organization, including the development and management of government and foundations grants and contracts, contracts negotiation, and organizational budgets.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
- Direct and coordinate company financial planning and budget management functions while oversees daily operations of the accounting department;
- Monitor and analyze monthly operating results against budget;
- Manage the preparation of the official annual report of actual revenues, transfers, expenses and financial outlooks and financial forecasts;
- Prepare financial analysis for contract negotiations and product investment decisions;
- Develop the organization’s budget, financial forecasting and planning data and revise as required;
- Prepares monthly forecasts of detailed company financial performance relative the company budget;
- Prepares presentations of financial information to the Executive Committee;
- Recommends and implements improvements in the organization’s financial and project management systems;
- Prepares overhead justification proposals and directs financial audits and procedure improvements;
- Works with research and administrative staff to develop systems for reviewing outgoing proposals, monitoring project budgets and preparing reports to funders.

| Req. candidate profile : |
Qualifications:
- MBA or comparable experience/training with minimum of 7-10 years of experience in a senior-level finance or accounting position; CPA highly desirable;
- 7+ years experience working non profit organizations managing the finance and accounting functions; must be conversant in managing government contracts;
- Ability to develop organizational budgets given multiple funding sources, including the federal government
- Demonstrated proficiency with strong management skills, preferably with a finance background;
- Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections. Working knowledge of short and long term budgeting and forecasting, rolling budgets, and product line profitability analysis;
- Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including GAAP, automated financial and accounting reporting systems and federal and state financial regulations.
