Job description: Named as one of the top ideas in 2006 by the New York Times Magazine and called "revolutionary" by the BBC, Kiva (www.kiva.org) is the world's online micro-lending marketplace for the working poor. Kiva lets internet users lend as little as $25 to specific developing world entrepreneurs — providing affordable capital to help them start or expand a small business.

Kiva is seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Accountant to support the growth of the organization. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for day-to-day accounting, payroll, financial reporting, and audit preparation for a $6 million organization. In addition, the Senior Accountant will be responsible for reconciling and overseeing the $20 million+ Loan Funds Account. The Senior Accountant will also be responsible for overseeing fiscal policies and procedures for the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of all payments for review and execution. Book all in and out-going bank transfers
  • Book all incoming invoices and make sure correct persons involved in approval
  • Oversee payroll and salary related items like taxes, 401k, prepayments and tax related risk
  • Ensure proper working of company's procedures by employees regarding sales invoices, purchase invoices and stock
  • Provide CFO with weekly updates and analysis of AR and AP
  • Oversee the receipt of payments from sponsors. May participate in the development of payment schedules.
  • Ensure that expenditures for budgets and grants are monitored and that reports are prepared to maintain balanced accounts.
  • Closing on a monthly basis for review and reporting purposes.
  • Provide monthly analysis of budgets and forecasts from P&L.
  • Continually evaluate the effectiveness and possibilities of integrating work procedures in daily routines.
Req. candidate profile : Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 4-6 years experience in a nonprofit organization, preferably in the arts or education
  • Experience with one or more accounting systems
  • Extremely structured and highly organized
  • Effective problem solving skills
  • Numerical and analytical with excellent attention to detail
  • Hands on mentality; independent and pro-active
  • The successful candidate will be flexible and fully engaged with the mission and with the staff
