Best Buddies International, an equal opportunity employer, is a dynamic non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of people with intellectual disabilities. At Best Buddies, we believe that to achieve our goals, the most important element of our strategy is to attract, retain and develop the best and brightest talents.
The State Director is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to oversee our state offices in Massachusetts and secure multi-year funding for programs and special projects. S/he identifies and cultivates individual donors, corporations, foundations and government agencies (who have the capacity to provide financial support) and connects the interests or mission of these funding sources with the needs of the organization.
Additional Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- Develops and manages a state plan and budget, implementing goals and objectives
- Manages the State Advisory Board including recruitment, training and retention of all members
- Creates, plans and executes special events with assistance from Special Event and Development Coordinator
- Manages government grants and contracts to ensure all guidelines are met effectively and on a timely basis
- Identifies, cultivates and develops volunteers capable of making personal commitments and becoming directly involved in the programmatic and fundraising efforts
- Initiates recruitment strategies for Best Buddies programs throughout the state (i.e. e-Buddies, Jobs, Citizens, Colleges, Middle Schools, and High Schools)
- Recruits, trains, evaluates and supervises program staff to establish, maintain and expand programs
- Monitors program expansion and maintenance, creates quarterly goals and ensures all reporting requirements are adhered to
- Creates a strong presence and awareness of Best Buddies through public speaking, community involvement, public service announcements, special events and other marketing/media initiatives.

Candidate profile:
- We are seeking exceptional candidates who demonstrate strong initiative, exceptional organizational and communication skills, and have a strong belief in the Best Buddies mission.
- The successful candidate will have a Bachelors Degree and at least seven years progressive experience in fund raising.
- S/he will have a consistent record of success in generating at least $500,000 or more annually in gifts from various funding sources.
- S/he will be a confident, strategic thinker with excellent organizational, writing and public presentation skills.
- S/he will have a record of success in expanding the donor base through cultivation and excellent stewardship.
- S/he will be able to articulate and communicate the mission, goals, and activities of Best Buddies with passion and enthusiasm.
- S/he will enjoy the pursuit to enhance the lives of people with intellectual disabilities by working diligently to secure financial resources for programs in the state.
- The successful candidate will have superb interpersonal skills, and will be comfortable making direct contact with various funding sources to discuss their interest and commitment.
- S/he will work effectively with colleagues to achieve the overall income goals. S/he will have the highest ethical standards and a deep respect for philanthropy.
- S/he will be flexible, adaptable, and will enjoy working in a fast-paced growth environment.
