Job description
Job description: The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation (“Foundation’), a not-for-profit organization, makes grants in five core program areas: higher education and scholarship; libraries and scholarly communication; museums and art conservation; performing arts; and conservation and the environment. At year end 2007, total assets of the foundation were approximately $5.8 billion, with annual grantmaking appropriations of approximately $250 million. The Foundation seeks an investment analyst to focus on its private equity and enhanced fixed income investment activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in management of portfolio of private equity and distressed debt/enhanced fixed income funds
  • Monitor current fund investments through review of manager reports and letters, periodic meetings with managers, and attendance at annual meetings and conferences
  • Identify new investment opportunities and maintain forward calendar of potential funds in the market
  • Develop and maintain relationships with investment managers, intermediaries, and other institutional investors
  • Manage due diligence projects including both qualitative and quantitative analyses of past performance, applicability of performance to current market conditions, and reference checks
  • Prepare written investment recommendations, summaries of manager meetings, and updates of investment performance
  • Produce and verify investment performance reports, including periodic activity, significant holdings, and valuation changes
  • Design and produce portfolio analysis and other analytical special projects
Req. candidate profile : Qualifications:

  • Strong academic background, CFA or MBA preferred
  • Outstanding communications and analytical skills
  • Commitment to the Foundation’s mission, high level of professionalism, and ability to represent the Foundation publicly
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize projects, and collaborate with a team
  • Financial modeling skills and general knowledge of portfolio theory, corporate finance, and alternative assets
  • Energy, enthusiasm for investing and interest in the financial markets
  • Willingness to travel
