We are seeking a Principal
Mechanical Engineer who will be an integral member of the Base Station Antenna design and development team. The position requires use and application of standard engineering principles, concepts and techniques to provide innovative resolutions to a diverse range of complex problems, including whole spectrum of engineering disciplines (materials, designs, processes, etc...).
The position will require sufficient understanding of customer requirements and deliver results that meet customer needs, be fully competent in the subject matter or functional areas of assignment. Principal Engineer will employ a broad application of principles, theories and concepts in applicable discipline, plus working knowledge of other fields.
The Principal Mechanical Engineer will lead team members toward effective execution of project tasks and will coach and create development opportunities for team members. This position requires expertise in 2-3 domains and comprehensive knowledge across multiple product lines. Additionally, this position requires demonstrated ability to deliver innovations that result in new products and product / process enhancements.
Responsibilities
- Translate customer requirements into product design solutions.
- Develop a thorough understanding of the Product Development Process and suggest / implement process improvements.
- Visit manufacturing plants as needed to determine product and process improvement priorities.
- Define Design Verification Tests (DVT) and evaluate the results of DVT.
- The successful candidate is expected to independently evaluate, select and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria, using sound judgment to make adaptations and modifications. While assignments have clear and specified objectives, the candidate is expected to develop own resources to solve problems in a variety of areas and to assume responsibility for definable several projects.
- The successful candidate will be responsible for research, design, development and planning in different areas of Mechanical Engineering including electro-mechanical systems, machine design, instruments, and/or controls and will conduct feasibility studies and test new or modified designs. May direct engineering and support personnel during detailed design, design testing and prototype fabrication.
- Devise new approaches to problems. Works on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires in-depth evaluation of various factors.
- Act as a key contributor and/or technical leader within a project team. May direct or coordinate work of engineers, drafters, technicians and other non-exempt personnel.
- Perform research, design and development in mechanical, structural, fluid flow, thermal, RF / Mechanics and Mechatronics.
Education and Experience -
- Bachelors degree or Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- 15+ years of work experience involving the use of Mechanical Engineering principles and practices, as well as knowledge of typical manufacturing processes (stampings, sheet metal fabrication, pultrusion, extrusion, die casting, plastic molded components, etc.) in Product Design in a high volume manufacturing environment
- Recognized for key technical contributions and leadership by engineering peers and management.
- Industrial Design experience and/or education is a plus.
- Experience in stress analysis with familiarity using Ansys or Cosmos or a similar software and analysis using conventional hand techniques
- Experience using solid modeling software with familiarity in SolidWorks or
PRO/E or similar software
- Experience applying DFMA techniques.
- Mechanical testing experience (structural testing is required, environmental testing is a plus)
- Project Management experience preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to lead problem-solving teams
- Proficient with Microsoft Office tools, SAP is a plus
- Experience with RF communication and antenna engineering is a plus
- Ability to regularly contact, influence and negotiate with both internal and external individuals on complex issues.
- Knowledge of state of the art materials/properties
- Experience managing several product lines simultaneously
- Negotiating experience on specification trade-offs.
- Coaching and mentoring experience.
