The aim of the Baltimore Freedom Academy (BFA) is to provide an environment that cultivates young adults who will emerge dedicated to serving their families and their communities and prepared to be informed problem-solvers and effective advocates for positive social change.
Responsibilities include:
Teaching up to two different courses each semester (excludes middle school)
Advising a cohort of students academically and socially with a high level of consistency and integrity
Committing to staff meetings organized and led by colleagues
Submitting to an evaluation process that captures the spirit of the BFA mission and academic standards
Seeking professional development opportunities that builds instructional skills and communicating takeaways back to the faculty and staff
Developing curriculum with content team and instructional support teacher
Participating in a “critical friends” system that includes offering and receiving constructive critique of peers through informal classroom observations
Providing students with BFA grade reports to offer continuous reliable feedback that reflects the BFA assessment model
Advising co-curricular activities and/or coaching athletic teams
Planning academic and cultural field trips
Mapping curriculum in support of a living and breathing model that supports student interests and needs
Attending an annual faculty retreat and an annual faculty team building activity
Interdisciplinary planning in support of our project-based and college prep model
Incorporating our mission and vision into curriculum, physical space, and lesson plans
Participating in additional activities such as coach class and/or homework club to support the school culture
Participating in team meetings with content teams to ensure rigorous and effective instruction
Creating a classroom that promotes high expectations, the BFA mission and vision, accountability to the PRIDE behavioral model and clear systems and procedures for instruction and discipline
Communicating frequently with both students’ families and advisors to ensure that multiple stakeholders are accountable for student progress
Operating with a high level of professionalism and integrity, honoring students, colleagues, families and the community
Serving on at least one in-school committee

Have demonstrated ability to move students at mixed levels to high levels of academic achievement
Have high expectations for both student behavior and achievement and the belief that every child can and will achieve at high levels
Exude a positive, solutions-oriented attitude and the willingness to work with different types of people to create a positive school for our students
Demonstrate high levels of attendance and performance in previous positions
Be committed to our mission and vision and be able to articulate how to use it in teaching at BFA
