The Metropolitan Opera is looking for an individual to be responsible for administering and reporting on gifts and bequests, coordinating planned gift marketing efforts, coordinating Encore Society special events, obtaining new planned gifts, managing portfolios of annual donors, and managing seat plaque program.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Responsible for the administration of all probate matters involving the Metropolitan Opera; manage a substantial and growing caseload of active trusts and estates, some involving probate litigation, and coordinate with senior planned giving staff and the General Counsel to determine appropriate legal and policy responses to unusual situations; account for and report gifts and bequests to be distributed to the Metropolitan Opera.
- Working with senior staff, responsible for coordinating the department’s marketing efforts by providing assistance in creating content; developing mailing lists; trafficking production of mailings, advertisements and media efforts; and tracking responses.
- Responsible for coordinating annual Encore Society special events for local and out-of-town members.
- Identify, cultivate and solicit new planned gifts, and steward existing planned giving donors.
- Manage portfolio of annual Patrons and major donors.
- Manage seat plaque endowment program.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Undergraduate degree required, Certificate or equivalent graduate degree preferred. 3-5 years of legal experience, preferably in probate practice; or planned giving or comparable fundraising experience in a planned or major giving position with a nonprofit organization, preferably of national scope. Demonstrated success in working with volunteers and soliciting and closing gifts.
- Excellence in written, oral and interpersonal skills; ability to analyze and communicate technical, complex matters of a sensitive nature.
- Ability and willingness to work closely with volunteers, attending performances, participating in donor and social functions, and visiting with Met Patrons and their legal and financial advisors where appropriate.
- Capacity to understand and appreciate the personal financial and estate planning needs and concern of Metropolitan Opera donors and discretion and sound judgment in dealing with highly confidential information.
- Independent initiative and creative ability to work efficiently and accurately to meet critical deadlines, along with a keen attentiveness to detail.
- Evening and weekend hours required for social functions and Encore Society Weekend.
