Duties & Responsibilities:
A candidate for the position provides effective instruction and support in curricular areas for which employed; utilizes various instructional resources and technologies; demonstrates knowledge of the teaching/learning process; develops and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of a diverse student population; maintains contact and communication with parents; and works effectively with administrators, colleagues, and all members of the school community.
- Creates a classroom environment that provides for student involvement in the learning process and enables each student to achieve learning goals
- Plans and implements an instructional program that meets the need, interests, and abilities of a diverse student population, including students with disabilities
- Manages pupil performance in the classroom and applies effective strategies to reinforce and/or modify student behavior and performance
- Establishes learning objective consistent with assessment of student needs, requirements of the state of Maryland and The Seed School of Maryland, and knowledge of human growth and development
- Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, Seed policy, and administrative regulations
- Participates in school management and shares responsibility for the total school program, attends staff meetings, and participates in professional development opportunities
- Appraises his/her own effectiveness, seeks opportunities for professional growth, and demonstrates successful application of new skills and strategies in order to improve professional competence

Qualifications:
- Knowledge of students’ intellectual and social development, in order to advance student growth and achievement
- An understanding of how effective interdisciplinary teams work and how he/she can best contribute to effective teams
- Working knowledge of instructional technologies
- Willingness to co-teach with the reading teacher
- Demonstrate excellence in the teaching of writing and knowledge about the writing process in theory and practice
- Proficient in the use of the writers’ workshop model approach and familiarity with the methods of educators such as Lucy Calkins and Nancy Atwell
- Demonstrate mastery of the technical knowledge and skill of written language
- Ability to incorporate technology into the writing process and the teaching of writing
- Ability to design professional development activities for all staff to support professional growth in the teaching of writing
- Provide learning experiences that utilize a variety of instructional methods and strategies that to allow students to learn writing across the curriculum
- Provide instruction in various writing genres such as expository, narrative, persuasive, etc.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to inspire enthusiasm and support
- Excellent communication skills, both one-on-one and in groups
Experience & Education:
- Bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, or master equivalent in applicable field of education from an accredited college or university
- Holds or is eligible for an Advanced Professional Certificate appropriate to area of assignment issued by the Maryland State Department of Education
- An endorsement in elementary education
- Dual certification in content and special education preferred.
