Ford’s Theatre, a fast-growing historic theatre and history museum, seeks an Education Programs Manager for the Ford’s Theatre Center for Education and Leadership. This individual will oversee the fulfillment of the growing education portion of Ford’s mission to honor the spirit and legacy of President Abraham Lincoln by exploring the human experience through theatre and education.
Goals for this position include:
- To deepen the experience of the visitor to Ford’s Theatre’s and enhance his or her understanding of President Lincoln, Washington under Lincoln’s Presidency, the Civil War, the events surrounding the assassination and its aftermath, and the legacy of leadership and compassion left to us by President Lincoln;
- To maximize the reach and influence of the Ford’s Theatre Center for Education and Leadership as an educational and cultural hub for the study of Lincoln’s Presidency;
- To make available to students and teachers here in Washington, across the nation, and all over the world materials and resources that will keep alive the vision and values of America’s greatest President; and
- To integrate the arts and crafts of performance and storytelling, and the lens of museum education, into Ford’s educational programming as effective and dynamic tools to teach the lessons of Lincoln’s Presidency and legacy.
The Education Programs Manager will be responsible for implementing and overseeing school tours, walking tours and some teaching artist residencies, tracking expenses, and working with the marketing department to target schools and other student and teacher constituencies. Additionally, s/he may develop curriculum materials, cultivate local and national education communities, and work with the Teacher Advisory Council.

Additional Qualifications:
This is an exciting opportunity to help shape a major education program integrating theatrical and museum learning with history and leadership education. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3-4 years experience in working on education programs for a cultural organization, experience in working with public schools, and some form of teaching experience. Flexibility, a sense of humor and a desire to grow with the program a must. Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred.
