Job description: Overall Responsibility:

Work with the Director of Educational Outreach to plan, promote, execute and evaluate farm-based educational programming according to the work plan of in-house grants, collaborative grants, and the needs of the PASA membership. All staff members are expected to contribute as needed to ensure PASA best represents and responds to the needs of our members while striving to live up to our mission of promoting profitable farms that produce healthy food for all people while respecting the natural environment.

Job Description:
  • Work closely with the department head to schedule, promote, and host Farm Based Education events as required by current in-house grants, collaborative grants, and membership needs
  • Work closely with the department head to maintain a fiscally sound program, keeping a keen eye on the departmental budget and assuring that grant funds are spent in an ethical and timely manner while working with an advisory committee to further develop Educational Outreach programs & funding
  • Assist department head in submitting quarterly, annual and final reports as required by individual grants

Read, understand and manage current Educational Outreach grants including (but not limited to) the following specific duties:
  • Develop Small Ruminant educational programming; create a Small Ruminant Directory, host regional Small Ruminant producers meetings, engage the broader Small Ruminant community in publicity and networking efforts, create and administer evaluation tools to measure the effectiveness of the project and the needs of Small Ruminant producers
  • Develop Greenhouse and Hi-Tunnel educational programming; develop a transition gradient survey to measure the success of the programming, find and replicate educational materials named in the grant and other related materials for distribution to program attendees
  • Develop Value-Added Dairy educational programming; develop survey for trend tracking, assist department head in identifying relevant programming for value-added dairy producers
  • Work as a team member within the Educational Outreach department and with PASA staff in general filling in for department head in any event in which s/he is needed
  • It is necessary that the Educational Outreach Associate be able to work flexible hours, travel throughout Pennsylvania to Farm Based Education host sites and work occasional nights and weekends especially during the Field Day season.
Req. candidate profile : Additional Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree BA/BS required
  • Demonstrated interest in and passion for the PASA cause and mission
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and FileMaker Pro; email proficiency
  • Highly organized, able to work independently, prioritize and complete multiple projects, meet deadlines, and maintain consistent attention to detail
  • Self-starter with strong interpersonal and communication skills; out-going and professional
  • Excellent writing and analytical skills
  • Experience with grant application or management, strategic planning, event promotion and other organizational development skills.
