Job description
Job description: Reporting to and working closely with the Executive Director and the Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Development will be responsible for achieving set revenue goals through building relationships with individual & corporate donors; fundraising events; corporate, family and private foundations; and, through board relations. The Director of Development will play a critical role in building the financial foundation for the future growth and sustainability of this growing nonprofit organization.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop and Implement Strategic Development Plan
  • Works interactively with the Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer to establish the strategic development plan; sets realizable goals in support of LKR’s mission and financial priorities; reviews and approves overall development emphasis and direction through identification of market needs and application of strategic goals
  • Develops strategies and tactics to meet or exceed annual revenue projections set forth in the strategic development plan
  • Oversees the development of collateral materials used in support of achieving the financial goals for the sustainability of the organization
  • Oversees the development and implementation of marketing plans for LKR in support of achieving LKR’s revenue projections

Individual Donors
  • Develops and implements systems, strategies and tactics to significantly increase giving by individuals
  • Constructs and implements initiatives to win major gifts
  • Leads quarterly appeal efforts by working with staff, designers, and vendors

Corporate

Develops and implements systems, strategies and tactics to significantly increase giving by corporations through cause marketing, co-branding, event sponsorship, direct donations and matching donations

Events
  • Builds relationships and earns revenue through LKR events; seeks corporate and individual sponsors to underwrite costs of events; leverages major donor, corporate and celebrity relationships to maximize revenue; earns revenue through auctions
  • Builds relationships to become beneficiary of third party events

Grants

Supply leads, contacts and develop strategies to improve success rates for all submitted grants

Board Members
  • Engages Board Members in fundraising: involves them in LKR development committees through the building of major gifts strategies and tactics; and, by encouraging them to contact their friends and colleagues
  • Obtains qualified referrals from board members to improve individual and corporate giving and to obtain board candidates
Req. candidate profile : SKILLS / QUALIFICATIONS
  • The ideal candidate will be entrepreneurial, highly creative, focused, organized, and self-motivated. The candidate will demonstrate proven pro-active attitude and flexibility – a willingness to roll up your sleeves and do what it takes to get the job done.
  • At least seven years proven leadership experience in fundraising and development
  • Exceptionally strong communication skills and critical thinking skills. Ability to produce high quality work with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple projects, self-prioritize, adjust quickly to shifting priorities, meet deadlines, and exercise good judgment. Must demonstrate consistency in follow through and accountability.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with co-workers and consultants as an accomplished team player.
  • Experience with non-profit financial reports, including organizational & project budgets, form 990s and audits.
  • Strong computer systems capability is preferred, including Salesforce, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Priority will be given to candidates who have experience with music and/or youth programs
