Job description
Job description: The mission of Makor is to engage and serve young adults in their 20’s and 30’s. Operating primarily during evenings and weekends to accommodate the schedule of this target demographic, Makor showcases artists in Music performances, avant-garde film screenings, art exhibits and events, theater, literary readings and in talks. Makor also offers interesting classes and seminars, as well as recreational and group volunteer activities. At its core, the Makor program aims to build a vibrant and dynamic community of young adults based on Jewish values and exciting cultural programs.


The Center Director will be responsible for the development and management of the complete range of the center’s operations, activities and programs.

Responsibilities include:

Strategic planning; Board cultivation; development and fund raising initiatives; programming; marketing; operations management; financial management; human resource administration, legal affairs, public relations; facilities management; information technology and the management of the café and food and beverage operation. The Center Director collaborates with various departments of the 92nd Street Y in order to effectively executive the above responsibilities.

Key priorities for the Center Director are program development, staff supervision, and budget and resource management. This position requires an entrepreneurial executive interested and aware of trends in New York City life related to young adults and baby boomers and willing to experiment with new ideas, methods and media. The Director also interfaces with community leaders, lecturers, teachers and celebrities; ensuring the center’s visibility and prominence in the cultural and Jewish community in downtown Manhattan and throughout New York City. The Director will also play in integral role in planning and executing the re-launch of the Center’s programs in its in new Tribeca facility.


DAILY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Day-to Day management and supervision of the Center’s programs.
  • Direct program development and planning with Center’s directors and staff.
  • Supervise program directors and Center staff.
  • Develop, manage and monitor Center budgets.
  • Monitor marketing, membership and participation information.
  • Develop marketing and publicity materials for programs; monitor deadlines, distribution, etc.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Public Relations Department on various promotions
  • Work with the Center’s volunteer leadership and subcommittees.
  • Represent the Center on Y professional committees regarding management and program.
  • Manage the development and presentation of programming in major areas of music, film, education and social activities, literary, gallery exhibits, theatre, community service, speakers programs, special events and networking groups.
Req. candidate profile : Additional Qualifications:
  • Five to Seven Years Management Experience in Non-Profit and/or Arts/Cultural Institution
  • Advanced Degree in management, social work, arts administration or other related field desired
  • Experience in supervising senior staff responsible for major program initiatives.
  • A management philosophy and style that encourages staff creativity and professional growth.
  • Experience in developing and managing department budgets and finances.
  • Experience developing sophisticated and diverse programs attractive to New York City young adults and baby boomers
  • An “entrepreneur” who can demonstrate a history of creativity, risk and vision.
  • An organized, energetic, enthusiastic individual who works under pressure meets deadlines.
  • An individual who understands and is sensitive to the Jewish environment, either personally or professionally.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A polished and poised individual, comfortable interacting with high-level board members, public speakers and celebrities.
  • Comfortable speaking in front of groups.
  • Experience working with media and interest in exploring ideas for program enhancement via new media opportunities.
  • Available to work evenings and Sundays.
