The Vice President for Public Relations is responsible for developing and implementing dynamic strategies that-
- Create national awareness of the significance and value of American orchestras and the music they perform,
- Support the public relations interests of member orchestras and their public relations staff members, and
- Advance the public relations objectives of the League and its programs.
Principle Responsibilities
The Vice President for Public Relations is responsible for creating, implementing and measuring the success of a comprehensive public relations program that enhances the public image of American orchestras and supports the activities and image of the League. The Vice President will develop clear, coherent messages, target key audiences and outlets, and leverage the intelligence and experience within orchestras in the formulation and execution of national strategy.
The Vice President for Public Relations must field a high volume of media inquiries concerning both individual orchestras and industry wide trends and developments. The Vice President must implement protocols that ensure accuracy, sensitivity, and consultation with appropriate individuals in formulating responses.
The Vice President for Public Relations must ensure articulation and consistent communication of the League’s image and position throughout the organization, and to all constituencies and stakeholders.
As liaison to the public relations professionals of member orchestras the Vice President for Public Relations facilitates the development of agendas for bi-annual meetings, ensures ongoing communication, and generally attempts be responsive to their needs.

Additional Qualifications:
The successful candidate will be a goal oriented, high level strategic thinker, able to envision success, design and execute appropriate strategies, and able to collaborate with the League’s diverse constituencies and stakeholders The successful candidate will have a minimum of five years of public relations experience with an American orchestra or a classical music organization in a significant media market, will be respected by media and orchestra professionals, will be able to work in a highly collaborative environment, and will possess a clear and articulate perception of the place and role of today’s orchestra in American society. Applicants must also be superior communicators, both verbally and in writing.
