Best Buddies is determined to end social isolation for people with intellectual disabilities by establishing meaningful, lasting one-to-one friendships with their non-disabled peers. These friendships help increase self-esteem, confidence and the abilities of people with and without intellectual disabilities.
The Program Manager for Citizens works with community volunteers and local agencies that serve people with intellectual disabilities ages 18+ to develop and maintain successful one-to-one friendships within the Best Buddies program. The position is based out of the state office in New Haven and requires travel throughout the state.
Job Duties:
Program Operations:
Recruits, trains, and evaluates volunteers in all aspects of the program
Evaluates and selects host site facilities
Evaluates and selects volunteers to serve as host site coordinators and sponsors
Arranges and attends regular meetings with host site coordinators
Works with supervisor to perform annual evaluation of program
Oversees all day-to-day operations of matches in area
Provides on-going support for all volunteers
Plans and implements at least six group outings per year
Recruitment:
Works throughout the community and directly with business and civic organizations to recruit and identify volunteers to be matched in mutually enriching one-to-one friendships.
Public Awareness:
Solicits community donations to use for outings
Increases awareness of all Best Buddies programs through local marketing, public speaking and media initiatives, as well as Business Buddies (a monthly social networking opportunity)
Works with supervisor on public relations, program goals and objectives, and coordinating relations between Best Buddies Citizens and the community
Miscellaneous:
When appropriate, works with State Director and Supervisor on fund raising events as directed
Completes necessary paperwork in a timely and organized manner, including but not limited to mid- year reports, end-year reports, and monthly reports
Travels as necessary to accomplish job responsibilities
Handles special projects as assigned
Attends national annual program staff conference and annual Leadership Conference
Works evenings and weekends as necessary to complete assignments

Job Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree
Excellent communication skills and strong initiative
Ability to work well with adults and individuals with developmental disabilities
Automobile with applicable insurance (specific coverage limits required)
Experience managing & recruiting volunteers
Ability to contribute positively to teams large and small
