The New York Botanical Garden a historic landmark and one of New York City’s premier cultural institutions seeks dynamic Director of Public Education.
Responsibilities:
The Director of Public Education will be responsible for the creation and implementation of all public programs, interpretation, and related projects. She/He will plan and implement several annual public programs and provide new and creative ideas for existing events. Prepare and maintain institutional calendar with a three-year lead for the Garden’s public programs. Coordinate public program related marketing and collateral, including brochures, maps, signs, and website content. Create and facilitate the implementation of weekly and daily program handouts and oversee all communications about program with relevant departments and audiences. Facilitate and co-coordinate all aspects of weekend home gardening programs, events for the Home Gardening Center, and interpretation and programming related to the Home Gardening Center on-line. Coordinate programs with other Horticulture and education outreach activities, such as Bronx Green-Up compost workshops. The Director will supervise a Public Programs Assistant, Gardener for Public Programs and Public Programs Manager.
Req. candidate profile :
Additional Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree.
At least 5 years experience in museum or informal education and/or program or event management. Experience with interpretive planning required.
Knowledge of gardening topics desirable.
Supervisory management experience.
Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
