Job description: The New York Public Library is searching for a polished professional to oversee the day to day management of the Schomburg Membership Program.


Job Description:

Under the direction of the Assistant Director, Schomburg Public Affairs and Development, with a secondary report to the Director Membership and Public Affairs, is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Schomburg Membership Program, including high-dollar donor cultivation and stewardship. Prepares and implements the unit’s membership operating plan and annual budget in consultation with supervisor, development office, and outside counsel. Serves as lead writer/editor/proofreader for unit; works closely with consultants in developing proposals, solicitation packages and prospect lists including house file selections. Oversees all donor benefits fulfillment including contribution acknowledgments, customer service procedures, and the planning and implementation of receptions, exhibition viewings, and other special donor events. Supervises staff of one. Performs related duties as required.
Req. candidate profile : Job Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree and successfully demonstrated experience in non-profit development, public relations or marketing. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Excellent proofreading and editorial skills. Successfully demonstrated supervisory experience with staff and/or volunteers. Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and deal tactfully and effectively with donors, consultants, and Library Management. Demonstrated ability to set priorities and handle multiple assignments simultaneously. Strong interest in and familiarity with African-American and African Diaspora studies. Successfully demonstrated experience with basic software applications including MS Word and Excel. Familiarity with direct marketing programs using mail and telemarketing, and with major donor prospect selection preferred.
