Job description: Best Buddies International is a dynamic non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of people with intellectual disabilities by providing opportunities for one-to-one friendships and competitive employment throughout the United States and abroad.

Best Buddies International (BBI), an equal opportunity employer, seeks a dynamic professional to join our team in Chicago, IL as the Program Manager for Colleges.

Job Duties include, but are not limited to:

Programs:
  • Travel throughout Illinois to manage established chapters. Meet with each chapter at least twice each semester.
  • Recruit, interview, select, train, and motivate committed volunteers to assist in running area chapters.
  • Compile information from chapters to develop and write mid and end year reports annually.
  • Evaluate and select dedicated professionals and facilities to serve as Host Site Coordinators and Host Sites for college chapters.
  • Oversee all day-to-day operations of chapters/matches in area.
  • Oversee College Buddy Directors (student leaders) to ensure quality chapters as they recruit members, train student leaders, hold meetings, plan group activities, establish, support, and monitor friendships, and evaluate the program.
  • Responsible for all chapter leaders attending national leadership conference

Chapter Communications:
  • Act as liaison between chapters, state/regional offices and headquarters.
  • Arrange and attend meetings with Host Site Coordinators, Buddy Directors, Faculty Advisors, chapter officers, and College Buddy Directors.
  • Provide on-going support and training for all volunteers.

Chapter Events:
  • Solicit community donations for chapters to use for outings.
  • Work with fellow staff in coordinating program participates in Best Buddies month activities in the area and on college campuses.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of annual Leadership Conference and any other statewide events as assigned.

Miscellaneous:
  • When appropriate, work with State Director and/or Coordinator of Special Events on fund raising events.
  • Work with State Director and Supervisor on public relations and coordinating relations between Best Buddies Colleges and the community.
  • When appropriate, work with supervisor to develop program goals and objectives and perform annual evaluation of program.
  • Increase awareness of all Best Buddies programs through public speaking, marketing, and media initiatives.
  • Complete necessary paperwork in a timely and organized manner, including but not limited to midyear reports, end year reports, monthly reports, and quarterly goals.
  • Travel as necessary to accomplish the above responsibilities.
  • Handle special projects as assigned.
  • Attend national annual program staff conference and annual Leadership Conference.
  • When necessary, work early mornings, evenings and weekends as necessary to accomplish goals.
Req. candidate profile :
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Interest/experience working with people with intellectual disabilities
  • Volunteer experience: A record of volunteering with a campus, non-profit, church or other community organization. A minimum of one year served in a committed volunteer project is required.
  • Leadership experience: Demonstrated leadership experience, initiative, and independence through an officer, advisory or committee position; team captain/leader; project leader, supervisor, etc. A minimum of one year experience is required.
