Step Up Women’s Network is a non-profit membership organization dedicated to strengthening community resources for women and girls. Through hands-on volunteer work, professional mentorship and development, and fundraising for women’s health and critical issues, we educate and activate our membership to ensure that women and girls have the tools they need to create a better future.
Under the supervision of the Teen Programs Manager, the Program Coordinator will facilitate the planning and delivery of Step Up to Health and Wellbeing classes and special events for groups of middle and high school teen girls. Using the Step Up teen programs curriculum, the Program Coordinator will innovate and facilitate weekly health and nutrition education sessions; hire and train fitness instructors; deliver activity reports; track attendance and behavior through accurate record keeping; interact and build rapport with youth, their parents/guardians and volunteers.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Utilize Step Up curriculum to facilitate Step Up to Health & Wellbeing activities with girls.
- Provide weekly nutritional instruction to participants
- Recruit and manage paid and volunteer fitness instructors.
- Attend regular staff meetings and trainings.
- Monitor and encourage the attendance of girls to Step Up programs.
- Liaise between Teen Programs Manager and The Young Women’s Leadership School; Communicate with Teen Programs Manager and school staff about any schedule modifications or important behavioral or environmental issues.
- Organize special events/field trips, including school and family logistics and chaperoning.
- Assist in volunteer appreciation and management, including directing and guiding volunteers by delegating and monitoring specific responsibilities and sending volunteer thank you notes.
- Model appropriate communication with families, teachers, staff and girls.
- Track attendance, performance and behavior (positive and negative) through accurate record keeping.
- Collaborate with school staff to collect report cards, diplomas, and relevant test scores.
- Analyze performance metrics; Collect any documentation related to participants’ family income, ethnicity or other information required by funding sources.
- Assist in ensuring that Step Up branding is consistent across program sites.
- Provide crisis intervention services when necessary.
- Assist in the recruitment of new, and retention of existing, girls into Step Up programs

Qualifications:
Step Up is a very innovative and active organization that strives to maintain an aggressive calendar of activities to meet the needs of the women and girls we serve.
The ideal candidate:
- Has a passion for women’s and girls’ social issues
- Has experience or education in Nutrition, Public Health, Kinesiology, Physical Education, or Youth Development
- Possesses sensitivity and experience working with ethnically diverse and underserved communities
- Demonstrates strong people skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Has a high level of organization, the ability to multi-task
- Possesses demonstrated leadership and teamwork qualities
- Has earned a college degree
- Demonstrates strong attention to detail and cares about delivering quality, professional work
- Is a self-starter, a fast-learner, does not require heavy supervision, and copes well with change (i.e., is flexible)
- Is proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
- Can work in a fast-paced environment with changing demands
- Has some interest in fundraising or non-profit management
Specifications for Physical Requirements
- Must be able to support girls’ participation in a variety of physical activities at multiple sites.
