The Marketing Resource Center (MRC) Associate Director is responsible for relationship management for The Nature Conservancy’s (TNC) Mesoamerica and Caribbean Conservation Region. S/he manages a team of marketing professionals which serves the Region. As a member of the Marketing department, s/he will provide strategic direction as well as the tools, support and direct implementation necessary to engage key audiences to achieve pre-determined conservation outcomes.
The Associate Director, MRC for Mesoamerica/Caribbean will work with the Director of Field Marketing to ensure that agreed-upon marketing plans and strategies advance the Region’s conservation goals; manage marketing projects, staff and outside vendors; and participate in direct implementation and development of marketing programs. S/he will work collaboratively with appropriate TNC Worldwide Office marketing functions, including publications, interactive media, media relations and strategic outreach to maximize effectiveness of overall marketing opportunities to raise the profile of the region’s conservation action primarily to U.S.-based audiences. S/he will also work loosely with in-country staff to provide strategic counsel on marketing, communications and reputation isseus that may occur in the region.
DUTIES:
- Serve as a primary MRC point of contact for The Nature Conservancy Mesoamerica and Caribbean Region and manage and maintain a positive relationship between the partner program and the MRC.
- Serve as a member of one or more program partner management teams and provide strategic marketing and crisis communication guidance as required. Serve as member of the MRC leadership team.
- Lead the development and implementation of the region’s marketing plan in collaboration with regional leadership and staff to enable and elevate awareness of the program’s conservation priorities by key audiences.
- Lead the unified messaging for the Region for outreach, communication projects, special events and issues of prime importance to the Mesoamerica/Caribbean Region, primarily in the United States. Work closely with other MRC staff to ensure messaging is consistent across all marketing materials and vehicles and TNC global messaging.
- Hire, supervise and manage MRC staff based on approved protocol. Set annual objectives for staff managed.
- Manage marketing/production budgets for program partner(s), and provide input to Director of Field Marketing on operational budgets.
- Ensure timely implementation of the marketing/media plans within budget, including direct implementation of strategies as necessary.
- Identify strategic issues that need to be addressed by marketing senior management or internal audiences such as philanthropy.
- Oversee MRC compliance with TNC policies and procedures.
- Ensure consistent implementation of visual identity standards, branding and key messages.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Degree in marketing, advertising, communications, public relations, journalism, business management, or related field.
- Seven to 10 years of experience in the development of strategic marketing plans, implementation of marketing programs, and measurement of results.
- Fluent in English and Spanish, both written and spoken.
- Demonstrated success in managing one or more staff.
- Corporate, Public Relations or Advertising Agency experience a plus.
- Expertise in at least one of the following marketing disciplines: media relations, marketing planning, measurement, events, digital media, publication production, or writing.
- Experience in management of marketing/ production budget.
- Experience managing vendors.
- Experience working with executives and senior management as a management team member.
- Experience writing for a variety of print and electronic vehicles, including press materials, brochures, presentations, fact sheets, and the Internet.
- Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
- Project management skills including use of software to communicate and manage deliverables.
- Proven ability to work functionally with people from other groups without reporting relationships.
- Ability & willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
- Knowledge of the Mesoamerica and Caribbean cultures and experience working in the region and with U.S. and region-based media a strong plus.
- Personal passion for preserving and protecting the natural world with a belief in the mission, principles, and values of The Nature Conservancy’s global approach to conservation.
Additional Qualifications:
