ONE is an organization of organizations. Our 82 members include congregations, immigrant associations, tenant associations, non-profit agencies, educational institutions, and businesses. ONE’s mission is to build a successful, multi-ethnic, mixed economic community on Chicago’s northeast side.
The organizer will work with families, schools, congregations, community organizations, and businesses to identify the priorities of the community to make the initiative successful.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Engage the community and facilitate an inclusive process to assess community needs and assets and synthesize and share findings.
- Work with community members on issues of concern to the community.
- Organize and staff community meetings.
- Develop organizing strategy and campaigns.
- Work one on one with and identify leaders to build their leadership abilities.
- Work with the organization’s leaders to organize advocacy campaigns on issues the leadership identifies.
- Do outreach to residents, organizations, ethnic associations and public institutions about ONE’s campaigns and efforts to create change in public policies.
- Canvass and door knock in the community.
- Work with community leaders to participate in city and statewide coalitions.
- Prepare written reports, meeting summaries, press releases and related materials as they pertain to the work.
- Support fundraising efforts of the initiative.
- Assist the Executive Director with other tasks, as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:
The applicant should have at least two years of community organizing experience.
Must be able to demonstrate the following experiences and skills:
- Demonstrated experience in working with youth and a commitment to a community-based process of youth development.
- Excellent written and verbal communication ability.
- Proven ability to work with extremely diverse populations, including age, language & ethnic diversity.
- Experience working with community leaders in a collaborative fashion.
- Excellent team player.
- Able to meet deadlines and work independently.
- Basic computer skills.
- Innovative, creative, mature thinking and reasoning.
- A healthy ego.
- A sense of humor.
- Demonstrated commitment to the profession of community organizing.
- BA degree or equivalent life experience.
Additional Qualifications:
This is a community organizing job and as such may require more that 40 hours per week and will require attendance at some night and weekend meetings.
