Brooklyn Botanic Garden (BBG) is one of New York City’s leading cultural institutions and an internationally recognized urban botanic garden. BBG is committed to educating the public about plants and conservation through a wide variety of environmental education and community outreach programs and through its ongoing scientific research.
Director of Membership & Individual Giving – Job Summary:
The Director of Membership & Individual Giving is responsible for helping to fund the mission of Brooklyn Botanic Garden by generating approximately $1.2 million+ annually through membership revenue and individual contributions. This senior level management position is part of a growing 14-member team that raises approximately $5 million in annual operating support and seeks to raise an estimated $50 million in additional funding over the next 3-5 years to support the projects and goals of the Centennial Campaign.
This position reports to the Managing Director of Development & Membership and works with other senior departmental staff. Responsibilities include direct oversight of 2 staff members. The Director will have regular contact with staff at all levels throughout the institution, including staff in all programmatic areas, marketing, communications and finance, among others. This is an opportunity to play a leadership role in a well-established fundraising department with its sights set on achieving new levels of growth.

Additional Qualifications:
Development professional with 5+ years broad-based experience, including management of major projects, and proven track record of success in membership/development and furthering institutional goals. Candidate must be highly motivated, detail-oriented, able to juggle multiple projects, set priorities, trouble-shoot and meet deadlines. Raiser’s Edge competency required. Skills in thinking strategically and creatively about ways of building relationships with new and existing donors. A strong marketing and mission-oriented sense to present the institution in print and other mediums and through events in inspiring and engaging ways. Exemplary writing, communication, budgeting/fiscal management and computer/data management skills. A roll-up-the-sleeves, can-do approach to tasks both large and small. A creative team player with the ability to inspire, motivate and work collaboratively; flexibility and a positive attitude required. Background or strong interest in cultural institutions, environment, education and science desired. Great benefits.
