The San Francisco Urban Service Project (SFUSP) is now seeking highly motivated, energetic young leaders aged 20-26 with experience in outdoor environmental education and working with middle school students to join its service and leadership program.
SFUSP is a service and leadership development program for young adults age 20-26 from diverse backgrounds. It's designed to provide its participants with the opportunity, training, and support to work with youth in either a San Francisco community-based organization or public school.
CORPS MEMBER RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO, THE FOLLOWING:
- Partner with service site to assess and evaluate community needs; develop and implement creative projects to meet those needs
- Establish and maintain collaborations with other community agencies
- Provide ongoing written/verbal program evaluation and documentation
- Actively participate in SFUSP Training Program: weekly trainings and professional development, 3 overnight weekday retreats, social gatherings, and service days
- Develop and implement research-based community advocacy projects as well as training workshops for fellow Corps Members
- Critically analyze social issues that impact the communities in which Corps Members serve
- Devote time and energy towards community gatherings and project-planning that may take place during some evenings or weekends
- Complete the full term of service

CORPS MEMBERS ARE EXPECTED TO POSSESS THE FOLLOWING SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Demonstrated leadership in prior activities/programs
- Taking initiative in creating/implementing projects
- Working effectively and professionally with diverse staff, students, community residents and fellow Corps Members
- Possessing a strong sense of time management for deadlines, punctuality, initiating and completing tasks
- Having the desire to develop professional and leadership skills
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities
- Resourcefulness and flexibility, with the energy and experience to complete a demanding year of full-time work
- Commitment to San Francisco youth issues and to improving the lives of San Francisco children, youth, and their families
Additional Qualifications:
Applicants interested in working with the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department's Youth Stewardship Program must have a strong background and prior experience teaching outdoor environmental education and feel comfortable leading groups of 20+ students (upper elementary through middle school).
Applicants interested in working at 826 Valencia must have a strong desire for and/or prior experience working with urban middle school youth, and applicants with speaking/writing skills in languages other than English (i.e., Spanish, Tagalog, Mandarin or Cantonese) are strongly encouraged to apply.
