ARC is a 25-year-old racial-justice think tank with offices in Oakland, Chicago and New York. We aim to provide a hub and home for the diverse elements of the racial justice movement, which we see as part of a larger progressive movement. Our current programs include Strategic Research, Public Policy, Journalism, Media and Public Affairs, and Movement Building. ARC also publishes ColorLines, the national newsmagazine on race and politics. The Public Policy program is focused on informing public debate, changing existing policies and setting a racial justice standard for policymaking.
This position provides a unique opportunity for experienced, innovative and competent candidates who are passionate about racial justice. The candidate will work under the direction of ARC's Race and Public Policy Director. The position requires regular travel and is located in Oakland, California.
- Track and analyze national and state policy proposals of importance.
- Coordinate and facilitate meetings and briefings/trainings as needed.
- Develop written policy analysis and recommendations.
- Build relationships with key policymakers, journalists, organizations and individuals.
- Presentations at hearings and professional conferences.
- Frequent statewide and national travel.
- Work as a team member with ARC staff on organizational events and projects.

| Req. candidate profile : |
- At least five years experience in racial justice or civil rights advocacy.
- Excellent writing and analytical skills.
- Ability to form and articulate a strategic vision for effective racial justice advocacy.
- Demonstrated experience in public policy and related arenas, especially legislative analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative, think creatively, and work both collaboratively and independently.
- Willingness to travel.
- A sense of humor.
