| Job description |
| Job description: |
Springstep is a nonprofit organization that strengthens communities by engaging the public in programs focused on dance and music from cultures around the world.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the lead staff person managing our emerging Affiliate Program model. Work with approximately ten different community-based organizations who hold regular programming at Springstep throughout the year. Build strong and collaborative relationships with these dancers, musicians, artists, and program leaders. Manage their annual contract renewals and our provision of support services for these programs. Convene and promote collegial learning opportunities for this network. Work with our Marketing & Communications Manager on program outreach; track program participation data; and encourage affiliate “buy-in” to Springstep as a whole.
- Manage the contracting and provision of services for affiliate events (ranging from three-day festivals to short 2-3 hour programs) and run by organizations and artists that utilize our facility and staff support for these programs. Identify and proactively recruit appropriate organizations with which we can collaborate to bring culturally diverse programming to the community. Work closely with the Director of Operations and Facility Manager on event logistics.
- Develop and produce our annual six-event Performance Series with the assistance of the Programs Manager. Ensure that the series is educational as well as entertaining, and that it explores the connections among genres and the evolution of dance and music over time. Contract with artists; write program copy; effectively promote programs within the community. Use the Series to showcase emerging and local talent, but also to encourage collaboration among artists and groups. Manage performance events; track participation data; evaluate program outcomes.
- Develop and manage programs and events that encourage participation in dance and music as a community activity, such as our family folk dance series. Contract with musicians and dance callers. Build public awareness of folk, social, and world dance.
- Develop and oversee the annual programs budget in its entirety, generating $300,000 in revenue and closely managing expenses. Increase earned revenues by building class enrollments, performance audiences, and by establishing appropriate fees and subsidies for affiliate programs.
- Supervise a full-time Programs Manager who takes lead responsibility for all classes. Work collaboratively with her to share responsibility for programs as a whole, operating seven days a week—work schedules sometimes require swapping scheduled time on site.
- Recruit and manage volunteers and interns to help with programs and events.
- Strengthen and build community relationships with the schools, social service organizations, and other local groups, by communicating with these entities and encouraging their involvement in our programs.
- Work with the Executive Director on new program development, such as a potential summer day program for youth, annual festival showcasing the intersection of dance and music in a cultural context, and other projects.
- Assist in the procurement of funding for programs through grantwriting and through outreach to teachers, students, program participants, social dance leaders, and others, to promote the success of our annual fund.
- Work proactively and constructively in a small and very dedicated staff team.
