Job description
Job description: The Assistant Program Director works closely with the Director of Programs to manage tutoring and enrichment programs. Hours: Monday thru Thursday; 2:30–7:30pm (evenings a must)

Site Management:
  • Make sure on-site staff is equipped with the necessary tools to run tutoring sites
  • On-site management of enrichment programs; occasional oversight of tutoring centers
  • Keep parents, volunteers, and on-site staff informed about student successes and/or behavioral issues, and attendance
  • Ensure program participants are aware of all relevant programmatic events (special parties, trainings, volunteer reflection meetings, center closings)
  • Student registration during enrollment periods

Administrative Duties:
  • Provide weekly updates to the Director of Programs
  • Collect reports from on-site staff daily
  • Input attendance information into database
  • Distribute and collect year-end surveys
  • Responds promptly to inquiries (i.e. from volunteers, parents, etc.)
  • Help facilitate tutor orientation and trainings; coordinate special events
  • Other tasks as requested by the Director of Programs

Volunteer Management:
  • Conduct initial interviews with volunteers during scheduled recruitment periods; perform exit interviews with all departing volunteers
  • Make sure volunteer files are completed (i.e. CORI/SORI background checks, calling volunteer references)
  • Facilitate monthly volunteer reflection meetings
Req. candidate profile :
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • A minimum of 2 years experience working in a managerial position; experience supervising staff a must
  • Takes initiative; willingness to identify areas for programmatic improvement and motivation to implement suggested improvements
  • Demonstrated success working with youth in a diverse and/or urban population
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Must be able to multi-task
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills
  • Requires computer skills
  • Experience managing volunteers a plus
