Our client is one of Canada’s largest Agricultural companies with well over a billion dollars in revenues. They have the scale and scope to take on projects that others cannot. Their annual budget for seed variety research and development exceeds five million dollars. They require a senior manager to direct the activities of this division and manage the business aspects of R & D.
Job duties:
You will lead an exceptional team of scientists who are some of the best seed geneticists in the world. As the Director of R & D you will collaborate closely with your research team, other members of the senior management team, and industry stakeholders as you decide on big picture issues like:
what varieties to develop,
what traits to purchase,
what varieties to divest,
who to partner with, and
how to structure deals with suppliers, buyers and industry partners.
Req. candidate profile :
To be considered for this position, you must have a solid understanding of both seed trait research and seed marketing. You must have enough technical expertise to be able to truly communicate with your research team and the biotech industry. In addition to this, you must have enough business acumen to be able to assess the markets, recognize opportunities and make business case recommendations to the Senior Management Team. A plant science based MSc or PhD is required and a Masters in Business would be an asset but not a deal breaker. We will be looking for a proven track record of making sound seed business decisions.
