Job description
Job description: The Federation of American Scientists (FAS) (www.fas.org) has an immediate opening for an energetic Administrative Assistant to support office operations, the Director of Development and other departments and programs. This entry-level position has advancement opportunities for those interested in Public Policy and demonstrated research/writing ability. FAS works to ensure that scientific advances are used to build a secure, environmentally sustainable future for all people by conducting research and advocacy on science and public policy issues in a casual and collegial office environment.
Job duties: • Light reception duties – answer phones, greet guests, maintain reception area.
• Responsible for office-wide functions – copier/network printer, several email inboxes, mail and postage meter, maintaining/ordering supplies and neatness of open office areas.
• Database entry, maintenance and correspondence for members and donors.
• Research grants, support application process, maintain records and reports for grants received and update functionality of grant tracking Access database.
• Draft/edit correspondence, reports, project newsletters and distribute.
• Arrange travel.
• Assist with mailings, special projects and research as requested by program staff.
• Oversee recruiting interns and student members.
Req. candidate profile : • Excellent time management, organizational and communication skills (including good telephone manner and writing/editing skills), ability to follow through on assignments and desire to actively support staff and smooth office operations.
• Ability to take initiative, to work independently and accurately, to manage multiple priorities, and to remain calm and focused under pressure.
• Strong working knowledge of MS Office, particularly Access, Excel, Power Point and Outlook, as well as internet research skills. HTML a plus.
