Role: Technical writer - Online Help
Lansing, MI
4-6 months+
Responsibilities:
To be the primary author for the online help components of a new, custom-developed application. The author must have experience writing help and procedural documentation for new software applications. The individual will have responsibility for writing the application manual for the new software, field and page-level help content that is accessed directly from the application, and detailed procedures guiding end users on how to execute key processes within the application. The individual must be able to identify required content and the best structure for organizing the content, then be able to proactively seek out and obtain the knowledge or information required to be included. Strong writing abilities and the ability to work independently to research and develop required content are essential. The ability to quickly learn the basic functionality and key concepts associated with the application will be essential to achieving success in the role.
Required:
- Superior writing skills are a must
- Superior understanding of the writing process, including the ability to develop outlines, draft content, and edit content until the desired quality is achieved, is a must
- The ability to follow a structured and organized approach for developing content will be important to being successful in this role
- Ability to write using different styles based on the different purposes or audiences of the content
- Experience developing online help for software applications is required
- Must have a high level of comfort with technology, specifically the usage and principles associated with leading Internet-based systems
- Good project management skills and the ability to work independently to structure, draft, develop, edit, and gain approval of content is required
- Experience using the AuthorIT content development tool is desired; experience using other like content development or online help authoring tools is preferred
- Experience in writing and developing training material content is also preferred; this role will be expected to work closely with members of the training development team
- Must be able to multi-task and have a demonstrated track record of working successfuly in a high-paced and continously changing project environment
