POSITION SUMMARY
As a Staff Software Engineer in the Advertising Systems group you will be working with a talented team extensively involved in both the technology and business of serving large scale on-line advertisements The Walt Disney Company’s properties, including Disney.com, ESPN.com, ABCNEWS.com, Movies.com and others.
Primary areas of responsibility include architecture, design, and implementation of business and financial software systems related to the sales and delivery of online advertisements. Areas of focus also include engineering aspects of financial audits and standards, as well as algorithms for financial forecasting.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager of Advertising Systems, you will be involved in all areas of the software development lifecycle. Responsibilities will also include:
Designing complex software systems based on business requirements, utilizing full software lifecycle methodologies
Planning software platforms and setting architectural direction
Presenting technical issues and project status to senior and executive management
Identifying problems and opportunities, and championing solutions within the scope of the team's work
Mentoring new or less senior engineers on an as-needed basis
Documenting design, specifications, and code
Estimating and measuring software performance
Researching and evaluating new technologies
QUALIFICATIONS FOR POSITION
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience in field
7+ years of software design and implementation.
Strong written and verbal skills
Ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences
Work effectively in a team environment
SPECIFIC SKILLS REQUIRED
Extensive experience with Java using full software lifecycle methodologies
Experience with Relational Databases (MS SQLServer, SQL, Stored Procedures)
Web Applications (HTML, JavaScript, HTTP, Servlets, etc.)
Extensive Object Oriented design and implementation experience, including design patterns
Experience with accounting principles (invoicing, recognition, forecasting, etc.)
Experience with financial processes and standards (e.g. SAS70, Sarbanes-Oxley)
Some experience with SAP desirable
Ability to produce details design documents
