|| The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for designing, installing, maintaining and supporting LAN and WAN infrastructures throughout the company. They provide high-level technical support for voice and data network systems, create and maintain network documentation, maintain hardware and software standards, and work projects and tasks as needed in order to upgrade to new and/or improved equipment and procedures. They must be well versed with advanced engineering and administration of multiprotocol routers, multilayer switches, network security devices and network management systems. This position requires excellent analytical, problem management, organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in a relevant field.
Possess 5 years technical knowledge in related areas and display the ability to learn and grow with the program.
Possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work well with people of various backgrounds and skill levels.
Self-disciplined, self-starter, professional who can successfully bring projects to closure with a minimum of direction, guidance and oversight.
The ability to operate independently, without close supervision.
CCNP (or higher) Cisco certification.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Must possess an in-depth knowledge of networking protocols such as TCP/IP, SNMP/RMON and RDP; an in-depth knowledge of routing protocols such as EIGRP, BGP and OSPF; knowledge if network applications such as DHCP and DNS; in-depth knowledge of LAN/WAN communications, network hardware such as routers, Ethernet switches, bridges, gateways, firewalls, and load balancers; strong knowledge of multiple topologies and media such as Ethernet, Frame Relay, ATM, SONET, and FDDI; strong knowledge of factors affecting network optimization and performance; strong knowledge of network capacity analysis and trending; knowledge of application designs including: 2-tier, 3-tier and web browser based designs; knowledge of relational databases and SQL; knowledge of network optimization and performance analysis; knowledge of network capacity planning and trending; and, familiarity with general purpose test equipment including network sniffers and traffic generators. Strong understanding of voice and data network protocols: Ethernet, R/ARP, LACP, Spanning Tree, VSS, 802.1Q, TCP/IP, IPSEC VPNs, BGP, HSRP, NAT, TACACS+. Required experience: Cisco 2800 series routers, 6509 and 2960S switches, ASA 5500 Firewalls, ACE Application Control Engine Modules
Provides support for technical direction and engineering expertise for communications (LAN/WAN) systems infrastructure activities, including network planning, designing, implementing communications infrastructure requirements for buildings and systems.
Ensures that adequate and appropriate planning is provided in building communications spaces, networks, and media pathways to meet industry standards.
Interfaces with internal and external customers and vendors to determine communications infrastructure needs.
Responds immediately to Production issues.
