Job description: MySQL Database Administrator
Wetpaint is an innovative web company developing a new set of online collaborative tools that brings the best of wikis, blogs, and forums together in one easy-to-use application. We want people who are passionate about the web, small companies, and Balance Bars to join our fun, friendly, highly-productive, and sarcastic dev team.
The MySQL DBA will work closely with the User Experience team to ensure the integrity and efficiency of databases, focusing on performance analysis and creating high availability systems.
The ideal MySQL DBA will have past experience developing in the Java family and have experience with scripting languages such as Perl or PHP. He or she will be an advocate for system improvements, focusing on scalability, clustering, and load-balancing, and must have passion for quality work.


Skills & Experience
-Bachelor’s Degree in related field.
-2-4 years employed in a combination of MySQL and/or Linux / UNIX administration, 4+ years preferred
-Hands-on experience supporting large MySQL environments preferred.
-Proven experience with database replication techniques, complexities, automation, monitoring, and high-availability strategies.
-Must have some past development experience with at least one compiled language (C, C++, Java) plus at least one scripting language (Bourne shell, Perl, PHP).
-Excels in a collaborative environment: communicates system limitations and operations best practices.
Job duties: Key Responsibilities
1. Responsible for the creation, documentation, and monitoring of databases, standards and procedures, and integrated database systems.
2. Provide systems architecture guidance in creating high availability systems.
3. Provide scaling capacity planning. Identifies performance and storage management issues, including monitoring disk space on servers to ensure maximum uptime.
4. Plans and supports the implementation of major architectural changes.
5. Develop back-up and recovery procedures, including testing back-ups.
6. Assist in verifying data integrity.
7. Pro-active and reactive performance analysis, monitoring, troubleshooting and resolution of issues.
8. Support development and testing functions to efficiently utilize the database.
