Auto Claims Representative Trainee - San Antonio, Texas
Salary up to $40,000 a year depending on experience and qualifications
POSITION SUMMARY
Process personal lines auto claims from obtaining the initial details of the loss to negotiating settlements. Communicate with customers, as well as, repair facilities, attorneys and medical providers to reach timely and accurate resolutions to claims. Specifically investigate loss details, policy coverage, liability, property damages and bodily injury and settlement opportunities. Pursue excellence in service when dealing with all Unitrin Direct customers. Comply with all applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

BUSINESS OBJECTIVES
Claims Handling Practices
Claims Administration:
Obtain and analyze loss details and develop a comprehensive strategy to efficiently and accurately reach resolution on claims presented for coverage. Keep all Unitrin Direct customers and relevant representatives informed of the claims process and claim status using professional written and verbal communications.
Examine insurance policy provisions, endorsements, state statutory provisions and other records to verify applicable coverage. Systematically research and resolve coverage issues identified during the coverage investigation.
Conduct liability investigations utilizing investigative tools and processes to include obtaining recorded statements from involved parties, interpreting and decoding police reports, analyzing scene investigations and expert reports and interpreting state negligence laws, statutory provisions and case law.
Maintain a current diary on all claims. Thoroughly and accurately document the progression of each claim. Understand and implement negotiation strategy and related processes when communicating settlement related information to insureds, claimants, attorneys, body shop personnel, medical providers and other parties.
Property Damage Claims Handling Practices:
Conduct analyses of property damage claims presented for repair and replacement using a consistent and thorough estimate review process. Establish accurate loss reserves, and when applicable, subrogation and salvage reserves relative to the damages analyzed. When applicable, ensure the proper utilization of LKQ and aftermarket parts, blend and spot paint process, labor and tax rates, betterment and depreciation calculations, and towing and storage charges. When applicable, analyze total loss paperwork to validate the accuracy of the break-even analysis, ensure the value of salvage has been considered and proper tax rate has been utilized, and validate the accuracy of the valuation used for settlement. Utilize appropriate property damage claim investigation forms and form letters.
Bodily Injury Claims Handling Practices:
Conduct analyses of soft tissue and other minor bodily injury claims using a consistent and thorough injury review process. Establish accurate loss, and when applicable, subrogation reserves relative to the damages analyzed. Research and interpret injury related statutory provisions and case law, examine points of impact and extent of damage relative to the injury claimed, access prior injury information, develop and maintain rapport with the claimant or claimant’s representative, obtain proper release documentation, obtain medical reports and conduct detailed injury-specific research relating to the injury claimed, thoroughly document injury related treatment history and develop a comprehensive settlement strategy. Utilize appropriate bodily injury claim investigation forms and form letters.
Litigation/Arbitration Claims Handling Practices:
Work closely with the Supervisor/Litigation Manager and defense attorney, when applicable, to respond timely, accurately and professionally to plaintiff representative’s verbal and written correspondence. Establish accurate loss and expense reserves; develop a comprehensive settlement strategy and complete lawsuit, supplemental lawsuit and closed lawsuit reports. Research, interpret and communicate to appropriate team members applicable case law related to property damage and bodily injury related claims. Work closely with Supervisor/Litigation Manager to accurately research, interpret and utilize applicable legal terminology, cause(s) of action, jurisdictional issues, pleadings and procedures, and discovery tools. Understand and document litigation stages, litigation strategies and litigation cost control measures. Consider alternative dispute resolution methods when applicable. Utilize appropriate litigation forms and form letters.
Investigation and Fraud Prevention Practices:
Thoroughly investigate coverage and loss details for all claims to identify incidents of misrepresentation and suspicious activity. Review all prior losses for similarities in loss patterns and/or involved parties. Conduct analyses of theft, fire and vandalism claims using a consistent and thorough investigation process. Take detailed recorded statements utilizing the appropriate statement guide. Properly secure all evidence related to the claim. Thoroughly understand SIU red flags, referral criteria and referral guidelines to ensure effective and efficient partnering with SIU investigators and analysts. Utilize appropriate suspicious claim investigation forms and form letters.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The position requires extensive use of the telephone and face-to-face communication that requires accurate perception of speech as well as talking and hearing. The position frequently requires the ability to visit employee workstations and other work areas. The position requires close vision, distant vision, and the ability to adjust focus. There is moderate noise in the work environment.
