This is a research-based position to investigate the degradation of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) using a microbial bioremediation process.
Responsibilities:
The candidate must be familiar with mass spectrometry, PCR, gene sequencing, protein isolation and characterization, identifying and characterizing specific or community of bacterial strains associated with the degradation of VOCs, and characterizing the products of degradation. The selected candidate will be expected to supervise student projects, and work with the Project Director to generate new proposals, prepare abstracts and manuscripts, and generate progress reports on the project. The selected candidate will be expected to have an excellent writing skill and the ability to interact with students and faculty.

Educational Requirement:
Candidates must possess strong backgrounds in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, with applications in environmental science-based research. An individual with strong computational skills is a plus. Research areas will involve mass spectrometry, gene manipulation, protein isolation and purification, and microbial culture. A minimum of a PhD degree or candidates with a minimum of one-year Post-doctoral experience are strongly encouraged to apply. Funding for this position is for one year. Extension of this position beyond one year is not guaranteed and depends on additional funding.
