The University Budget Office works together as a team to provide accurate data, useful information, and budget related assistance to their customers at San Jose State University. Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Finance, the Director of Budget Management manages the administration of San Jose State University's budget and works with the AVP of Finance and the Vice President of Administration and Finance in overall university financial planning, analysis, and forecasting to support short and long-term financial planning.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Develop and implement budget procedures and policies required to accomplish the financial management objectives of the University
- Prepare and process budget transactions according to Chancellor's Office and University guidelines to ensure proper allocations of funds
- Design and administer the budget process including the development and implementation
- Prepare and publish annual university budget report
- Maintain oversight, in-depth analytical study and investigation of financial and administrative processes according to University decisions and needs to ensure fiscal integrity
- Provide consultative advice and interpretation on budget and financial matters to all levels of campus administration, in close coordination with the Accounting and Financial Systems Office, based on University need or requests to assist University departments in the management of their budgets

Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree and five to seven years of progressively responsible budget management experience is required. In addition, we require one to three years of supervisory experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Demonstrated functional knowledge in budget management, techniques and methodologies and financial planning, analysis and reporting.
- Ability to interpret technical procedures or regulations coupled with a commitment to research and learn new technologies to remain current in the field.
- Outstanding management and communication skills, initiative, originality, mature judgment, creative problem solving.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals and effectively present information to groups and individuals.
- Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions and interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with multiple abstract and concrete variables.
- Ability to create positive relationships with individuals from all backgrounds and at all levels of the organization leading to productive collaboration.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of California State University budget philosophy and methodologies
- Experience in higher education, particularly within the California State University system
- Working knowledge of PeopleSoft Financials
- Experience working in a collective bargaining environment
